In arty art news...there's a lot of it. I have a new update that will be up on Twitter and Facebook after I publish the blog. I used the comic strip creator program I have and am super excited to release it. While I know I said I was on vacation, I never stop arting. I didn't have a ton of time to art, but art I did...and I got in the mystical zone us artists' talk about. The vacation was more a break from social media than anything else. Which was needed. I was very focused on the webcomic. And learning the comic strip program and keeping the line art pristine.
I did figure out how to keep the line art pristine. YAY! And wow, that's a lot of layers to keep in check. I have a tendency to art on the wrong layer. Naming them and being very aware of them is key and so far, so good. Granted it's only been one page. The last page of pure Sophie sketches. As it stands right now, she is finalised. But that could change. I have started on one of her friends, and think I have a final sketch on him, too! Granted, it's very early in his creation...and he hasn't even been inked in. But so far he is fitting the style of Sophie. I am not sure how many pages of him I'll be doing. I guess until he tells me when he's finished. Then I'll be doing a page of him and Sophie together, so I don't lose her style, and can make sure the styles match. Consistency is key in a webcomic. I can't say it's the hardest part, I think the writing will be the hardest part. But it's not very easy, either. That being said I am LOVING what I'm doing.
I am loving cartooning and designing a webcomic! The other genres' I have learned are going to come in handy after the webcomic has launched, I has ideas! But they are a long way off, as well as the launch date for the webcomic. I have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying every minute. From learning the new comic strip program, to cartooning. Cartooning is my passion...it always has been and always will be. I cannot wait for the launch and the other ideas I have to come to light!
I need to repeat, there is no launch date for the webcomic. I am still working on character designs, learning the strip program, that sounded a bit dirty, and fitting the characters together. That is just the tip of the iceberg. After I get the character designs done and consistent, I will be working on props, environments, and the rest of the stuff that will bring it all together in magical world of my dark, twisted, sarcastic sense of humour. I'm a bit nervous about scripting the strip. I've been told I am a strong writer, but this is out of my wheelhouse. I am taking it as a learning experience...and you all know how much I love to learn! I think that the script will come with the character designs and the development of the world that Sophie is going to be living in. Too early to worry about scripting at this point. Right now I'm just focusing on character design and consistency of the style. So many little things that go into a webcomic that are often overlooked. Oh, I'm looking...staring at all of it and thinking how in the hell am I going to pull this off?! But then I think, it's what I do...it's what I love to do. It will all work out.
I'm so excited to be back cartooning and with an aim and direction. When the comic debuts, no clue when, I will be putting art up on Society 6. Maybe a panel that would fit there, maybe I'll be using my other styles and making a mash up of art style genres' to create a unique one of a kind piece. Who knows I may rebrand...under the webcomic name. Which is a work in progress, but a few ideas. It all depends on where it goes in general. So as you can see my Noggin hamsters are in overdrive thinking about the webcomic and other arty art things to support the webcomic. I pop awake most mornings with the webcomic on my mind, or a potentially great idea. You never know if it's going to be great until you try it. I have two notebooks filled with ideas, with things that need to be done. Again, did I mention how much I am loving what I'm doing?! I am. Even when I hit a bump in the webcomic road...happy!
On that note, and eye strain, dear minions. I hope you had a Happy Halloween and you own your week. Remember the art will be up on Twitter and Facebook, which you can find the buttons pretty much on every page, including the Support page, insert not so subtle hint here! Until next time, I bid you an adieu!
