I've been doing the pondering lately. Don't roll your eyes at me, minions...This one, I think may be good...and I will do my disclaimer right now **the following may be offensive to the younger minions...this is just my observances and by no means should be taken personally**. With the disclaimer laid down, I've been doing a bit of research (wow I think I heard the groaning from here) about the English language...North American...to be more generically specific. Slang...specifically. I have noticed throughout the years the dumbing down of slang. In the 20's and 30's we had all these nifty sayings...some we still do use...but generally I don't hear them. Now we have "YOLO" and "bae" which are my two least favourites. They make me cringe. With such an extensive language to tap from...that is what we come up with. Granted, I do love WTF and facepalm...even a good pwn thrown in here and there for good measure. Seriously, though...we come up with acronyms and typo's? We are seriously becoming lazy. I guess this is sort of a rant...oh and LOL in all it's forms, I do like those.
The ponder spawned from the fact I am reading books that were published in the late 1930's. I read a lot of books from the early 1900's to even earlier. HP Lovecraft is early 1900's and he's my favourite...he's keen. Yes, I'm throwing in some old-timey slang for fun. Not too much. Again...Shakespeare had some very witty insults...I just wish I could remember all of the slang, and such. Too much other "stuff" clogging my noggin'. Either way, I wonder if I'm just getting too "old" and just think it's juvenile and lazy...I wonder what the parents' of kids' in the 20's and 30's thought of their lingo? Were they thinking the same thing? That is the other ponder, which I will spare you from the gory details. I'm just saying we are missing out on a LOT of really fantastic words because we are lazy...is it because of the digital age? So many questions. Feel free to answer them in the comments, or drop me a line. It is a quandary for me. Truly. No sarcasm to be had, here.
Anywho, I did some really good arting this weekend. Not a lot...but quality. I am learning...trying to grow...get better at stuff. I had a lot of other stuff to do, and all that pondering, which does happen while arting most of the time...which means there is a LOT of pondering going on that you don't get to be privy to. I spare you, minions. Because I care. Every now and again I will let a ponder loose upon the world. I will be letting 2 new art pieces loose upon the world this week. I'm hoping to be featured again, but I don't think I'll be that lucky...I am still very humbled and flattered by being chosen.
This week there are plans being planned...and art to be arted. I still haven't gotten a good character design out yet...I'm very rusty in the traditional sense. Which almost made me sad...I will keep pushing on that level, too. I even fiddled doing characters purely digital, which I did learn stuff, but there was no success. At least I am growing...using yet another medium...and I'm very happy with the results thus far. I love digital in the fact that every single medium is at your Wacom pens' fingertips...if it had fingers...if it did that would be super creepy on many levels.
On that note, minions, I think you've had enough eye strain for the day. I hope your Monday blues aren't too blue...but more of a teal...or a chartruese. Hmmm...spell check doesn't like chartruese...at all. Well it can just pound sand....(another old old saying, clipped...it's one of my favourites.) I digress. Remember, to share this page, and the other social media pages...with all that you know and don't know...strangers won't be strange if you meet them...and what better way then to share my little world with them?! Until Wednesday my lovelies...
