So in a previous blog I was telling you all about my hobbies. Well one of them, by the name of Don't Starve, just dropped a DLC this month. I just found about it today and I just had to get it. I was very excited to see it, watch the video. This game is campy and kitschy and I love it. I think I actually found it and it's sister game Don't Starve Together (you can play with your friends, and if you don't have any...strangers too!) last year around this time...I think. Or was it the year before? I have no clue. I could probably find out, but does it really matter? If you really want to know, leave a comment and I'll dig up the info. I digress, I actually got the soundtrack to the game, it was so inspiring to my art...the game itself and the music. Which lead me to other strange oddities for music.
So what is exactly Don't Starve and why do you care? (I'll put the why you should care in the NEXT paragraph...so if you don't want to know about the game, skip this one.) Don't Starve is a survival game. I've said before, I'll say probably a lot more the art is just so campy and creepy it's just awesome. I actually was going to make characters for the game, yes you can do that...sadly, while I can do the art no problem...it's actually coding where the issue lies. My husband doesn't have the time to figure it out...so well, phooey. This is not another zombie survival game...oh no...this is survival from the elements, monsters (stupid spiders!), not starving...there is no end goal, except not to die. Eventually you will, resources run out, you go insane...and the monsters you hallucinate kill you...I'm serious. Did I mention how much I love this game?! Well now there is a stand-alone-esque expansion, you have to own Don't Starve, but Shipwrecked just takes it over the top, the little I've played. It's in Early Release, so I am very excited about what is ahead. I already despise the thieving little monkey's that throw poop at you...grrrr...if it hits you, you lose sanity. I'm sad I can't play my player made (by someone else) character...but I'm assuming they will have them mod ready soon? I have to bug the creator about that. LOL. Anyways, awesome game, really great price for some crazy fun, solo and with your friends. A group of us have been playing about a month after I got into it...and we've had some crazy fun times. Same friends we GW2 with. For such a simple game (not GW2) it really is fun and you die in just the weirdest and awful ways...but funny.
Okay, so welcome back to those that skipped that last paragraph...so why should you care that I got this game? Main reason this game inspires me on so many levels for art. I usually end up playing a bit more than I should, but when I sit down to art, a lot of oddities, awesome oddities come out. I wasn't playing last week but you should see this past Friday's update for an example, because I was actually missing DS/DST last week. The art is on Society 6 buried...grrrr to S6. The link can be found on the home page of this site. They are on all the products that I have available. I'm excited to be playing this game just to see where I go with my art. I haven't played in awhile, and I have been growing and learning a lot on my program I use to art with. I have a feeling that there will be magical moments of frustration, where I want to throw poop, just like the monkey's...(if you skipped the last paragraph you should go back up and read it for the reference. I'll wait.)
Are we all caught up? Okay. So I am really excited to play so I can be inspired to art! I won't be updating any of my sites except this blog, until the new year. Hoping I'll have tons of new things...or I'll be saying...well I kind of went overboard on the playing...which will never happen. I love gaming...but I cannot do it for long periods of time, like I can art. I can art for 10 hours...throw in a few snacks, etc. Gaming, I just can't do it for that long. Which is probably a good thing or I wouldn't be an artist. I'd just be a gamer, and there is nothing wrong with that, except for me I love and need to create. I do consider myself a gamer...I just am more casual than I used to be. Especially since both are digital...my eyes need breaks...so I read. Oh the latest book: Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot. Had trouble getting into it at first, but it was his second novel. You can for sure see how much he's grown as an author. Creepy, still. I decided to do another novel before going back to my non-fiction realm of I have no clue what I'm reading next. It's a surprise.
Well my minions, I am off before I get on a book deciding spree giving you all eye strain and irrevocable boredom-itis. I have that power....**insert sinister but cute music here**
